Do you have 2 kids under 5 years old and still want to travel lightly wherever adventure takes you?  Then you are probably looking for the perfect lightweight double stroller. Let’s look closely at the options you should consider before you make this big purchase.

When you search “umbrella stroller” on any store website, you will find many options for lightweight strollers.  A traditional umbrella stroller has handles with a J-shape, and they fold up like an umbrella. What Are Lightweight Double Strollers Best For?

Travel

These strollers are great for travel because they’re easier (than traditional strollers) to fold up compactly, lift into a car or carry up a flight of stairs, and stow away for another day.  If you travel often, you know how important it is to save space any way possible. It seems impossible these days to “travel lightly” with 2 small kids, but it is possible to make smarter choices on your big purchases to make it easier on your family.  It’s essential to own a lightweight double stroller if this situation describes your lifestyle.

City Living

Double lightweight strollers are also great for city living because they handle tight corners and busy sidewalks with ease.  If you go with a higher-end stroller option than the typical less than $100 umbrella stroller that you’re used to seeing, then it will be obvious that the bigger price tag has great advantages.  The stroller handling on our recommendations below are all outstanding, allowing you to maneuver tight corners and get through busy sidewalks, even with 2 children!

Comfort for you sweeties as you make your way around the city is also extremely important.  In many lightweight strollers, you will find padded, reclinable seats, safe and comfortable 5 point harnesses, and large or expandable sunshades.

Anytime Adventures

If you’re like me, and want to have the flexibility to change what you do with your children each day, a few of our recommendations below will give you that ability without having to purchase multiple strollers.  Keep in mind that different strollers have different wheels that are specific to what terrain you will be strolling on. All terrain wheels can handle “all” different surfaces…sidewalks, grass, and even trails up the side of a mountain.  The other tire options are the standard rubber tires and air-filled tires. Once you recognize how you will most often use your stroller, you can make the best decision for which tires suit your needs.

Benefits of Lightweight Double Strollers

Lightweight

The most obvious obvious draw to purchasing a lightweight or umbrella double stroller is that you have a few less pounds to carry!  This makes it much easier to get around with 2 kids in tow. You can easily lift the stroller into your car or carry it up a flight of stairs.

Easy to maneuver

When you have 2 or more kids, it’s much more difficult to maneuver through crowds and tight spaces.  These lightweight options handle turns quickly and easily, so it makes your errand running much less challenging.

Modern Conveniences

High-end lightweight double strollers are made to be very easy to use.  Look for a stroller that folds easily and compactly in a flash. It’s also important that they have enough storage space for your needs.  Keep in mind that you can purchase add-on convenience items to customize your stroller to suit your needs.

Comfortable for Parents and Children

Some comfort options on these strollers include adjustable handlebars, padded and reclinable seats, and an ultra smooth ride because of the optional front-wheel suspension.  You can read through our detailed reviews below to determine which options are most important for you.

Best Double Umbrella Strollers 2018

Britax B-Agile Double Stroller

This stroller gets the highest rank from me because of its ease of use, the high quality structure and materials, and its price!  Because of its aluminum frame, it is super lightweight at only 26 pounds. For a double stroller with all the comfort and handling you could ask for, this is as lightweight as it gets.  You can easily lift it into a car, or carry it up a flight of stairs. It has the easiest one-hand fold that I’ve found, with a large strap you pull from the child seat. This makes folding a quick process and keeps you moving along with your day.

The B-Agile Double Stroller also maneuvers easily and can handle sharp turns.  It fits through standard sized doorways, so taking it anywhere with 2 kids along makes life much easier.  A high end feature you’re sure to love is the adjustable handlebars, so you can maximize your comfort behind the wheel.  Your little ones will also be comfortable all day due to its full recline positions, large sun visors, and comfortable seats.

The one thing to note that could hinder your immediate use is that it doesn’t have car seat hookup available.  You can put the seat in full recline and use it this way for an infant, but if you’re looking for a stroller that is compatible with an infant car seat, you may want to consider another one of our options below.

Baby Jogger City Mini Double Stroller

I am a huge fan of all of the Baby Jogger strollers, and this mini double stroller holds up to the Baby Jogger hype!  At 28 pounds, this lightweight double stroller has all of the features you will need as you travel around the city, go on daytime adventures, or head out on vacation.

The City Mini has car seat adaptors available for purchase to accommodate your specific infant car seat.  This is a feature not found on most lightweight strollers. It has many other convenience features such as a quick and easy fold, storage nets under the stroller and also behind the seats, and large canopies with retractable weather covers and peek-a-boo windows.

This stroller is also very comfortable for your 2 children.  The front wheel suspension makes the ride smooth and let’s your little one rest easy.  When it is naptime, the seats offer full reclinability. If you see yourself using a stroller quite often, then this stroller might be worth the bigger price tag for the comfort and convenience it offers.

Baby Jogger City Mini GT Double Stroller

If you felt like the last review (Baby Jogger City Mini) was up your alley, you will also want to consider the upgraded (for a bigger price tag) GT model.  It has all the great features I discussed before, with a handful of additional features.

The GT has all terrain wheels that make it a great stroller for both city-strolling during the week and off-roading on the weekends.  It also has adjustable handlebars for you and adjustable footrests for your little ones. There’s also a little more growing room in this upgraded model.  It can fit a child a bit taller than most lightweight strollers.

The only downside to having all these additional features is that it adds a little bit of weight, at around 32 pounds.  This high-end stroller still is fairly lightweight for a double.

Bob Revolution Flex Duallie Stroller

If you’re in the market for a double jogging stroller or a stroller made for tough terrain, the Bob Revolution Flex Duallie has everything you could ever need.  Bob strollers are made for runners. The front wheel locks in place for safety, but can also be unlocked for easy maneuvering around sidewalks and store aisles when you’re not on a jog.

The handles have 9 point adjustments for maximum parent comfort.  Child comfort is also a top priority with ultra padded seats and easy reclinability for rest time after a long day of adventuring.  The stroller folds up easily and compactly for transporting it in your trunk and storing it at home.

The price tag is higher than the previous stroller recommendations, but if you desire to be fit and want to encourage your 2 little ones to live this active lifestyle, then purchasing a double jogging stroller is the perfect opportunity to show them the way.  They are sure to be comfortable while enjoying the outdoors!

Joovy Scooter X2

We also want to show our love for the Joovy Scooter X2, for its excellent handling, mass amounts of storage (largest in the lightweight stroller market), comfort for your little ones, and ease of fold for storage or carrying.  This stroller is a stand out because, even with all of these amazing features and top ratings, it still has a great, low price tag.

You will also be able to pick your favorite color for this stroller, which is always a fun way to express your style.  And don’t forget some great add-on items brought to you by Joovy. These include individual child trays, rain cover, and parent console.

There are a few features you give up for the lower price.  There’s no ability to connect a car seat to this stroller if you have an infant.  It doesn’t have adjustable handlebars or footrests for your kids. In my opinion, these are easy things to give up if you’re not a particularly tall person and you don’t have a newborn.

Choosing The Perfect Lightweight Double Stroller

Life doesn’t slow down when you add extra kids to your family.  That’s why it’s incredibly important to choose the perfect stroller for your needs.  Make sure to keep these things at the top of your checklist: weight for lifting and carrying purposes, how easy it is to maneuver, the conveniences it offers, and the comfort for parents and children.

Once you know what to look for, your search will be much simpler.
